چکیده

The exist.rnce of weakly interacting massive pa1·ticles (WHvlPs) has been suggested to explain both t.he dark matter conundrum and the sohu neutrino deficiency. Provided t.hat thf'y do not annihilat.f', these part.ides can be extremely efficient. in transporting energy inside stellar coris. They can supplement radiation and, under the specific circ:umstances which Wf' analyze, f'H'.'11 supprf'8S corf' convedion. \Ve review here the main modifications experience-d by st.ellar evolution when \Yll\-lPs are present.. \Ve conclude that. cold dark matter lea<ls t.o an anomalous mass-to-luminosity rda.t.ion for light ( 1\/ < 0.5 AI() ) main-sequence stars and also implies thermal pulses in horizontal branch st.ars. 273 1 On leave of abRence from LAPP, BPl 10, 74941 Annecy-le-Vieux Cedex, Fra11ce and Universite de Chamb€-ty, 7;3000

Stellar Structure of Dark Stars: a first phase of Stellar Evolution due to Dark Matter Annihilation

Dark Stars are the very first phase of stellar evolution in the history of the universe: the first stars to form (at redshifts z ∼ 10 − 50) are powered by dark matter annihilation instead of fusion (if the dark matter is made of particles which are their own antipartners). We find equilibrium polytropic configurations for these stars; we start from the time DM heating becomes important (M ∼ 1 −...

The Influence of Stellar Energetics and Dark Matter on the Chemical Evolution of Dwarf Irregulars

A chemical evolution model following the evolution of the abundances of H, He, C, N, O and Fe for dwarf irregular and blue compact galaxies is presented. This model takes into account detailed nucleosynthesis and computes in detail the rates of supernovae of type II and I. The star formation is assumed to have proceeded in short but intense bursts. The novelty relative to previous models is tha...

Dark stars at the Galactic centre – the main sequence

In regions of very high dark matter density such as the Galactic centre, the capture and annihilation of WIMP dark matter by stars has the potential to significantly alter their evolution. We describe the dark stellar evolution code DarkStars, and present a series of detailed grids of WIMP-influenced stellar models for main sequence stars. We describe the changes in stellar structure and main s...

Stellar and Total Mass in Early-type Lensing Galaxies

For 18 well-observed gravitationally lensed QSOs, we compare new non-parametric mass profiles for the lensing galaxies with stellar-population models derived from published HST photometry. The large volume of parameter space searched – with respect to the possible star formation histories – allows us to infer robust estimates and uncertainties for the stellar masses. The most interesting result...

Constraints on Galaxy Structure and Evolution from the Light of Nearby Systems

We review knowledge of galaxy structures obtained by their emitted light and in the local universe where they can be studied in great detail. We discuss the shapes of, and stellar motions within, galaxies, compositional clues derived from their spectra, and what luminous matter implies about their dark matter content. Implications on the current theory of hierarchical galaxy formation are explo...
